Cockburn’s coast will be a hive of activity when a brand-new arts and cultural festival, Coogee Live, opens this month.

Locals and visitors alike will discover intriguing works of art, interactive activities, community group demonstrations and musical interludes as they wind their way along an event trail stretching the length of Coogee’s picturesque coastline.

Four main festival hubs at Port Coogee, Omeo Park, Coogee Beach and Coogee Beach Surf Life Saving Club (Coogee SLSC) will host their own dedicated line-up of entertainment, with plenty of surprises along the way. The hubs are all linked by walkable and rideable pathways, allowing attendees to explore one or all, over the weekend.

The Port Coogee Hub presented by Frasers Property will host Movies Over the Marina, a full program of feature length and short films viewable from the shore and water at Ngarkal Beach, alongside live painting by local artists, market stalls and a lighting competition by pen holders at Port Coogee Marina.

A large-scale lighting installation will guide people to the Live Lighter Omeo Hub where bands and street performers will entertain crowds with the ocean as an inspiring backdrop.

At the Live Lighter Coogee Beach Hub, community groups will host a range of ‘come and try’ activities, while Junkadelic will run workshops where children can make an instrument from recycled materials, learn some rhythms and perform with the big band. In the evenings, Coogee Beach and its jetty will transform into an open-air stage for aerial performances, DJs and lighting shows.

Coogee SLSC Hub will be the perfect place to get an overview of the action along the beach from the licenced bar and restaurant, accompanied by live music.

Coogee Live was developed by the City of Cockburn as a celebration of the fantastic family friendly lifestyle Cockburn has to offer.

City of Cockburn Mayor, Logan Howlett said while locals were very proud of the amazing amenities Cockburn had to offer, Coogee Beach was still a well-kept secret unknown to the broader metropolitan area.

“The City felt it was important to create an event to showcase all that is great about living in the Cockburn area and we’re all proud to be able to share our pristine beaches, rich history and diverse culture with the broader community,” Mayor Howlett said.

“The City of Cockburn Councillors and I are all very much looking forward to this new celebration.”

Coogee Live will run from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 March.
