Public domain works progressing

14 July 2021

You may have noticed the large stockpile of sand on the north side of the harbour near the start of the breakwall. This is the native sand material excavated from the sand bund and channel entrance excavation. We are currently screening this sand to remove cobbles and natural clay so that the sand can be reused in the dunal rehabilitation works and elsewhere in the project.
Also, the public domain works around the foreshore walk is progressing well, with concrete pours nearly every day as we near completion. The stairs between Nautilus and the foreshore are now poured, and the capping beams are nearly all complete.
Also, the steel reinforcement for the outer harbour heavy duty pavement is being prepped. This creates the connection between the future boat maintenance facility and the heavy duty platform. Some of these steel members weigh over 100kgs and require specialist subcontractors to assemble.
