Project Update June 2024
Dear residents and community members,
We’re pleased to share some excellent recent announcements about new educational and community facilities in this update.
The State Government has confirmed it will build a new primary school with an attached kindergarten within Wallara Waters. The school, with the interim name of Wallan East Primary School, is scheduled to open Term One 2026, along with the attached two-room kindergarten.
The State Government also announced it has allocated extra funding to the future Wallan East Family and Children Centre. This $11.6 million facility, also supported by Mitchell Shire Council, will be a hub for early childhood and family services and is expected to open in 2026.
Less positively, as we advised in our recent letter to residents, our wetlands project has been affected by a major review of the Merri Creek catchment strategy by Melbourne Water. As a result, our wetlands plan may need to be redesigned, but this is work we cannot undertake until we receive Melbourne Water’s new guidelines.
Melbourne Water advises the review of the strategy is required due to rapid population growth in the catchment area but is unable to provide us with information about when the review will be complete.
As we mentioned in our letter, we will endeavour to smooth and grass the area of works to improve it visually as we await advice on how to proceed with this important feature of our community.
If you live outside Wallara Waters but would like to receive updates by email, please sign up at https://www.frasersproperty.com.au/VIC/Wallara-Waters/Contact-Us/Enquire-Now or contact us on 13 38 38.
We’ll continue to check in regularly with our stakeholders and provide information as we receive it via these updates and our website.

An additional road connection is planned in the southern section of Wallara Waters which includes a new bridge over the Hume Freeway. As previously mentioned, the designs for the Macsfield Rd signalised intersection have been provided to the Department of Transport. We have now gone through multiple rounds of changes and the final design plans have been submitted. Approval for works is anticipated in coming months. |
Hume Freeway Bridge |
Frasers Property Australia and Mondous Property Australia |
As per direction from the Department of Transport, the Hume Freeway Bridge cannot commence construction until the intersection works are complete. The tender process for the bridge was concluded in Q1 this year. We are in discussions with prospective contractors. Once the final design has been approved by the Department of Transport and intersection works are complete, demolition of the existing bridge can commence. |
Taylors Creek and wetlands system |
Melbourne Water and Frasers Property Australia and Mondous Property Australia |
As mentioned in our letter to customers, we have some unwelcome news about our wetlands project to share. Melbourne Water is reviewing its strategy for the Merri Creek catchment as a result of rapid population growth. That means our planned wetlands area may need to be redesigned. As Melbourne Water cannot advise when their review will be complete, we can’t advise you when it is likely we will be able to proceed with redesigning our project. We plan to do some work to make the site look more pleasant and will advise our customers of a revised design as soon as we are able. |

It’s clear that the sense of community and Christmas cheer was strong. |
Very Neighborly Fair |
In March we hosted our first Very Neighbourly Fair. It was a lovely day filled with games, art workshops, music, face painting, balloon-twisting, a photobooth, animal petting farm and a visit from the Easter Bunny! We love putting on these events and will keep you updated with more to come. |
Food Truck Fridays |
Food Truck Fridays have been a popular Friday Event on the first Friday of each month at the Sales Centre Carpark at Wallara Waters. It’s been a great opportunity for residents to meet their neighbors over some delicious food. Food Truck Fridays will be taking a break over winter. We will be back when the weather warms up again in September with a selection of food vans. |
