Get your kids outdoors - Spring is here!

Great news for families with little ones - the new Forest Walk Nature Playground at Frasers Landing is now open!

Playing freely outdoors is so important for our kids. Nature Play WA says: “Child-led play in the outdoors (nature play) enriches childhood with movement, with imagination, with friendship, and with all the sensory wonder that nature brings.”

It has been proven that children who are physically active outdoors have enhanced psychological wellbeing and better health outcomes. Not surprising, given play accounts for 42% of Australian children’s physical activity (Active, Healthy Kids Australia, 2014).

For many of us, it’s difficult to understand why there needs to be research and organisations dedicated to getting kids to play outdoors – it’s something we took for granted growing up! But for many children, playtime often means being sedentary indoors, often in front of a screen.

Fortunately, Frasers Landing has launched a wonderful new opportunity to get kids outside and playing amongst nature. The brand-new Forest Walk Nature Playground is a beautiful new pocket park designed in harmony with, and with respect to, the existing trees and flora. Much of the original vegetation has been retained, so it’s a play-ready pocket of nature within the estate. The play space has balancing logs to climb on, and little pods and steppers for younger kids to explore, creating a fun playtime experience under the shade of the trees. There’s also some lawn and a picnic setting, so you can settle in with your neighbours and watch the kids play in the gorgeous natural setting surrounded by trees and wildflowers.

The park also features new walking trails through the native bush, so with spring just arrived, it’s the perfect time to go exploring. If you look closely, you might spot some wildflowers, native orchids and even carnivorous plants!

Forest Walk Nature Playground is located at Frasers Landing, on the corner of Kalumba Road and Stringybark Loop, Coodanup.
