Christmas pudding

This recipe has been in my family since the First Fleet and has been passed down by each generation, ensuring that it is special to our family.




 1kg mixed fruit

  4 - 6 tablespoons whisky/rum/brandy
 250g plain flour  2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
 250g breadcrumbs   2 teaspoons mixed spice
 500g butter  1 teaspoon  bicarb soda
 500g brown sugar  250g almonds, slivered
 9 eggs  Salt



1.Put all fruit in large bowl and put flour on top. Add breadcrumbs and mix well. 

2. In big boiler full of water, put meta dish in bottom. Bring to the boil.

3. Cream butter and sugar. Add well-beaten eggs and brandy mix.

4. Add nutmeg, mixed spice and bicarb soda. Mix well.

5. Put into a well-buttered/floured pudding cloth and tie firmly. Cook for six hours, then serve with custard.
