Savvy investor Noelene Smith knew exactly what she was looking for when she decided to downsize.
She’s among the first purchasers in Nautilus, the premium apartment development in Shellharbour City Council’s and Frasers Property Australia’s The Waterfront, Shell Cove masterplanned community, in which she’s secured a premium three-bedroom luxury apartment.
“I live in a lovely home in Kiama with water views, but it’s on a very steep slope. There are a lot of stairs and the driveway is very steep, which is not going to help me as I get older, so I was looking for a nice place to live comfortably in my old age,” says the 76-year-old.
“I have always been interested in the Shell Cove development and have had my eyes on it since day one. I think Shell Cove is going to be another mini Darling Harbour and I just feel like this development will suit me 100%.
“All the amenities are there, including the shopping centre, restaurants and the hotel. I think the infrastructure is really good in the area too. There’s a doctor, dentist, medical centre, and some very good schools which my grandchildren go to.
“Shell Cove is only 9km from Kiama. All my children and grandchildren live in the Illawarra region so it’s nice to still live close to them,” she says.
Buying and selling property since her teenage years, Noelene knows the perfect place to call home when she sees one.
“Nautilus is a beautiful complex. I picked this apartment because I think it’s an iconic building that a lot of people will be talking about,” she says.
“It will definitely have high re-sale value that maybe my children or grandchildren can sell at a profit in the future.”
The absolute harbourfront position of Nautilus is also a major drawcard for Noelene.
“I maintain that you don’t actually own the water views unless you live on the waterfront,” she says.
“I have seen a lot of developments over the years where they promised you water views when you buy it, but then in 20 years they build another apartment building in front of your property.
“With Nautilus, I know I am never going to lose my harbour views.”
Noelene is looking forward to moving into her new home with Marley, her pet dog.
“I picked an apartment on the first floor because it’s actually the ground level at the back of the home, which leads out to the landscaped garden, the pool and gym,” Noelene says.
“I will be able to walk straight out to the garden while having the sea view and marina view at the same time.
“It’s a lovely environment here with level walking paths, which is excellent for Marley and myself.
“I will be sitting on the balcony, just watching people go by, and I will also get to swim in the pool.
“I am really excited and can’t wait to move in,” she says.
