Did you know Burwood Brickworks was formerly the New Northcote Brick Company? In 1866, John Roberts discovered quality clay soil behind his hotel, the Carter’s Arms in Northcote. He sold the land to the Groom brothers, and the Patent Brick Co. was born. By 1873, they were producing 1-2 million bricks annually. In 1882, the Northcote Brick Co. Ltd. was formed, gaining an 8-acre site and introducing a Hoffman kiln for more efficient brickmaking. By 1889, production soared to 4 million bricks per month. A rival, the New Northcote Brick Company, emerged in the late 1880s. Over the next several decades the company undertook major innovations and acquisitions of other businesses. It also registered the name Nubrik for its new products. The style of brick, with it smooth consistent colour, became a preferred material for suburban brick veneer houses throughout Melbourne, but in particularly in the quarter acre blocks of the new eastern suburbs. The Burwood Brickworks closed down in about 2000, and over the next few years the entire brick plant was demolished. After a proposed development of apartments and cinema complex by the Reading group in 2003 failed to eventuate, the site remained unused until Frasers Property Australia acquired it in 2014. Leave the car at home and make the most of the Link. The Link acts as the precinct's main thoroughfare, connecting the Urban Plaza to an abundance of green space, with a carefully curated maze of walking and cycling paths, making the development completely walkable. Not only does the Link promote a healthy lifestyle, it also reduces our impact on the environment which is what we're all about!

The Great Separation – on SBS On Demand from Tuesday 10th October. One third of Australians are affected by loneliness, so how can we find a way to live together, in a world designed to pull us apart? The Great Separation is an important documentary by award winning filmmaker Shannon Swan, following a young man seeking to understand Australia’s loneliness epidemic. The documentary is an incredibly moving and uplifting story and call to arms to rethink our own obligations to community and connection. Frasers Property Australia are proud to have funded this film, and we hope you’ll join us in sharing with your family, friends, and networks to continue to engage in conversation about how we can all, through our collective efforts, bring a little more connection and belonging into people’s lives.
