Last month, we held a Bushfire Readiness 101 workshop at our Frasers Landing Community Centre with representatives from DFES and the City of Mandurah.
We had a fantastic turnout with the help of the City of Mandurah who arranged for the Coordinator, Emergency Management, Myra Giardini to deliver a presentation on Emergency Strategies in place for the City of Mandurah and surrounds. With over 50 residents attending from Frasers Landing, this was a great opportunity to provide the best information sources in case of emergency - www.emergency.wa.gov.au, www.facebook.com/dfeswa and ABC radio.
FPA engaged with the City of Mandurah and arranged for the Coordinator, Emergency Management, Myra Giardini to deliver a presentation on Emergency Strategies in place for the City of Mandurah and surrounds. With over 50 residents attending from Frasers Landing they learnt that the best information source in case on emergency can be found on www.emergency.wa.gov.au, www.facebook.com/dfeswa and ABC Radio.
Other topics covered on the night included:
Plans, policy and legislation (which differs between states)
Roles and Responsibilities – coordination between media, evacuation, welfare
Key contacts and Resources – facilities, equipment, forms and maps
One of the most practical part of the discussion was the 5 minute fire chat:
Myra also reminded everyone to consider WHAT will you take? Medicine, documents, animals, photos etc
