Coogee Maritime Trail: Opening Summer 2016

Famed for it's coastal lifestyle and spectacular sunsets, Port Coogee is set to become an under water hot spot for marine life, divers, snorkelers and maritime enthusiasts alike now that works on the Coogee Maritime Trail are well and truly underway.

Incorporating the Omeo Shipwreck, the Coogee Maritime Trail - designed by marine engineers - will also feature underwater sculptures, a reef temple and other purpose-built modules to create a complex reef system that spans 230 metres across the ocean floor at Port Coogee. Researchers are expecting that the installations will attraction a variety of fish, invertebrates, macro algae and seagrass species.

Underwater signage will provide information on the Omeo Shipwreck and local marine life to divers and snorkelers, while landlubbers will be able to keep their feet dry and enjoy a land trail that will feature maritime artefacts and a viewing area of the Omeo Shipwreck.

Due to open in Summer 2016 you can follow the progress of the trail via the City of Cockburn and Port Coogee Facebook pages and, you can catch up with the project by watching the video here.
