This Challenge is globally acknowledged as the most advanced measure of sustainability in the built environment today and has resulted in a quality centre that offers an abundance of wellbeing benefits for the people who use it.

    The ultimate retail environment, Burwood Brickworks’ shopping centre is bathed in natural light, flushed with fresh air and invigorated with indoor plantings.

  • Naturally powered

    The retail centre is naturally powered, with all electricity consumed sourced from renewable resources, with the surplus generation going back into the grid.

  • Urban farm

    With an expansive urban farm and fruit trees lining the carpark and northern wall of the shopping centre, 20% of the retail space is dedicated to agriculture.

  • Australian first

    An Australian first, the 2,000sqm rooftop urban farm houses external planters and boxes and landscaped growing areas alongside a quail coop, olive grove and composting and worms farms.

  • Repurposing

    The Burwood Brickworks shopping centre collects all organic waste and repurposes for compost and other resources.

  • Water wise

    Burwood Brickworks is water-wise - all grey and black water is captured, treated and recycled on-site.
