Waves of Discovery - A day at Shell Cove

07 March 2022

From the morning sun rises over the sea, there is so much to experience at Shell Cove.

6.00 am (or check local times for sunrise – get there 15min beforehand)

Set your alarm for dawn because there is something incredible about watching the sunrise over the marina. Regardless of where you’re standing, it’s stunning – straight off the breakwall or anywhere around the harbour, as it rises from behind the boats. Your vantage point is irrelevant; it’s beautiful.

Keep an eye out for resident Grey Nurse Sharks!

7.30 am

After a wander around the boardwalks and breakwall, make your way back to the Shell Cove Town Centre for a well-earned coffee and big breakfast from your choice of cafés within The Waterfront Dining Precinct.

8.30 am

Time to get your togs on! Make your way over to The Farm where you’ll meet your learn to surf instructors, they’re going to help you experience one of the best left-hand breaks on the NSW East coast, and even if you can’t surf, you’ll get to enjoy all the benefits of vitamin sea!

10.30 am

In the Shell Cove Town Centre, pop into The Source and grab a handful of nibbles or take away treats. With a mouth watering selection of sustainable snacks and wholesome goodies, this is a must stop and experience.

11.00 am

Make your way over to The Village in Shellharbour for a morning perusing a range of boutique shops, another quick coffee, and maybe a little pamper.

1.00pm

You’ve earned yourself some lunch! Fill up in a range of incredible restaurants and eateries scattered throughout Shellharbour and Shell Cove. So, whether you’re after waterfront views with a beverage and burger, more fine dining or international cuisine, there is plenty to satisfy even the trickiest of taste buds.

3.00pm

It’s time to explore the coastline – and burn off some cals. Lace-up!

Bass Point is home to some incredible sights and scenes and the perfect destination to wander, explore and if you packed your swimmers, dive in and cool down. The marine park is home to incredible history, marine life, rock pools and outcrops. If you time it right, it’s also a brilliant location to watch the whales during their migrations. If you plan ahead, it’s well worth talking to several local scuba centres who can help guide you to some of the many dive sites in and around Bass Point.

4.00pm

After a massive day in the sun and salt, it’s time to slow it all down and enjoy the views and offerings at the newly opened Waterfront Tavern.

Sit overlooking – and cantilevered – over the water’s edge with a beverage of your choice as you sit back and watch the boats sail in.

6.00pm

Time to dine! With several choices for dinner within The Waterfront, or Village, we recommend going where you didn’t get to at lunch! There is no shortage in Georgia Rose, Perch Bar, Relish, Taste of Asia, and so many more… located just minutes apart, you can choose to walk, drive or use a shared ride service.

Beyond that, if you’re looking to continue or curl up, it’s up to you, but that is just a sample itinerary. There are still plenty of unique places to explore and memory-making moments to be had. Here are a few other ideas we couldn’t get into the day.

  • A round of Golf at The Links
  • Bushwalk through Blackbutt Reserve
  • Shopping at Stockland Shellharbour
  • Walk or bike ride the coastline from Shell Cove right around the Lake
  • Enjoy some laps in the Ocean Pools
  • We recommend taking the short drive to The Waterfalls if you've got two days.
