Project Update June 2025

16 June 2025

Dear residents and community members,

The new school and community infrastructure developments are progressing well at Wallara Waters, however we continue to await confirmation from Melbourne Water to enable us to progress the wetlands.

With students due to arrive in term 1 2026, work is in full swing on the Wallan East Primary School and Kindergarten, and we understand work will begin shortly on Mitchell Shire Council’s Integrated Family and Children’s Centre. You can now even vote for the schools name (link below).

For Wallara Waters wetlands, we are still awaiting confirmation from Melbourne Water about its strategic review of the Merri Creek catchment. As the catchment encompasses the wetlands, the outcome of the review will impact our current design. Therefore, unfortunately we are prevented from undertaking further work on the wetlands until Melbourne Water comes to a resolution.

Nevertheless, rather than sitting on our hands, we have made some important inroads which will expedite future work while the catchment plan is resolved.

The channel to the east of Wallara Waters traversing Yarra Valley Water’s land will play a key drainage role in the catchment, however it is currently clogged with weeds and silt and isn’t functioning well. To alleviate this, we approached Melbourne Water to see if we could future proof this issue and we have now received approval to do so. As a result, in the next month or so, we will begin cleaning out the channel and lining parts of it with concrete to ensure free flow in the future.

Temporary fencing around the future wetlands area is unfortunately necessary for safety and insurance reasons. We need to limit access to the area until the works program is complete. On a positive note, this will help alleviate the level of rubbish being blown into the area.

We appreciate people would rather see open wetlands than fencing in this area but while it remains in place, we will continue to work to maintain it and keep it tidy.

Sales

Frasers Property Australia and Mondous Property Australia

We have limited remaining lots in stage 13, stage 16 and stage 22. These lots range from 400sqm to 486 sqm and are priced between $345,000 and $410,000.

Macsfield Road Northern Highway Intersection

Frasers Property Australia and Mondous Property Australia

An additional road connection will be created in the southern section of Wallara Waters, including a new bridge over the Hume Freeway.
The designs for the Macsfield Rd signalised intersection have been approved by the Department of Transport and the next step is land acquisition.

Hume Freeway Bridge

Frasers Property Australia and Mondous Property Australia

The Hume Freeway Bridge cannot commence construction until the intersection works are complete.
We are in final discussions with design and build contractors. The next step after this is for the final design to be approved by the Department of Transport. Then, once the intersection works above are complete, demolition of the existing bridge can commence.

Taylors Creek and wetlands system

Melbourne Water, Frasers Property Australia and Mondous Property Australia

Taylors Creek and our wetlands drain into the Merri Creek catchment approximately 1.5 km east of Wallara Waters. As we advised in June 2024, Melbourne Water is now reviewing its existing strategy for the broader Merri Creek catchment and that means our planned wetlands area may need to be redesigned.
Melbourne Water is yet to advise when its review will be complete, and until this is done, we cannot assess what redesign work will be required.
However, while this review is being undertaken, we have received the ‘go ahead’ to undertake some maintenance work on the existing narrow outfall channel on Yarra Valley Water’s land east of Wallara Waters. This channel plays an important drainage function in the catchment and is currently choked with weeds and other items. The plan is to clean it out and partially line it with concrete so it can continue to drain freely in the future.
At this stage we expect to appoint a contractor in the coming weeks for these works, with commencement in Q3 2025.

Hume Freeway ‘on’ and ‘off’ ramps at Watson Street

Victorian Department of Transport

Planning works are still underway to upgrade the Watson Street interchange at the Hume Freeway. The next steps are detailed environmental and existing conditions investigations, refining designs, a Cultural Heritage Management Plan, and then appointing a construction partner.
