Coles to anchor new community shopping precinct

SYDNEY, 17 JULY 2018 – Residents of south west Sydney’s game-changing community Ed.Square will enjoy the convenience of a Coles supermarket in the heart of their new town centre in Edmondson Park.

Coles and Liquorland have been announced as the first retailers committed to the new Frasers Property Australia community, anchoring the light-filled, fresh food shopping precinct that will define the vibrant town square.

Frasers Property’s leasing campaign for Ed.Square now moves into full swing, and future residents have the comfort of knowing there’ll be a full-line 4,181 sqm Coles supermarket and 166 sqm Liquorland within walking distance of their home.

Ed.Square’s shopping precinct will integrate with an exciting entertainment offering accessed via the Eat Street dining district, which will offer an array of culinary choices, while the town square will host live entertainment and a children’s water play area.

It amounts to a contemporary urban atmosphere that serves as an extension to the homes of everyone who lives at Ed.Square, says Peri Macdonald, Executive General Manager – Retail, Frasers Property Australia.

“Our super-neighbourhood shopping centres are created specifically for locals who call the area home. By understanding their needs, and the needs of the broader catchment, we create centres that become a destination for people to spend time and be entertained, rather than just to shop,” explains Mr Macdonald.

“We’re excited to welcome Coles to share in the creation of the new community and to be part of Ed.Square from the outset.”

Coles State General Manager Orlando Rodriguez says Coles is committed to investing in Sydney’s south-west community.

“We are looking forward to creating new jobs and bringing local residents a brand new Coles supermarket at Ed.Square with a range and offer that is suited to the needs of the local community,” Mr Rodriguez says.

“Our new store design will provide customers with a market-style fresh produce area, an in-store bakery to provide freshly baked goods every day, a gourmet deli and an open-style meat counter offering customers a ‘slice on request’ service.

“We’re also looking forward to incorporating several new green initiatives into the store which will reduce our environmental footprint in the community, such as LED lighting, solar panelling and new energy efficient refrigeration.

“We’re committed to the growing community, and in fact, this will be our fourth new supermarket in the south west growth corridor. As part of our investment in Sydney’s south-west, we have already opened three concept Coles supermarkets in the past 12 months and created more than 300 new jobs at our nearby stores in Narellan, Denham Court and Ingleburn.”

The new Coles at Ed.Square is expected to open in early 2020, coinciding with the completion of the first retail stage and the community’s first residents moving in.

Ed.Square will comprise over 40,000sqm of retail space with over 120 shops integrated with a landmark 68-metre high residential tower, which will sit atop the town centre. The precinct will also likely include a fresh food market place, gym, entertainment precinct with cinema, convenience based services, medical facilities accommodating a GP, and health and pharmacy retailers.

A childcare centre offering up to 140 placements will be conveniently located at the northern end of the town centre adjacent to the train station, making it easy for parents to pick up and drop off the kids.

At Ed.Square, Frasers Property has collaborated with world-class architectural firms HDR, GroupGSA and HASSELL to deliver the vision for a regionally significant 21st century town centre, integrated with 1,882 homes in a mix of apartments, terraces and ‘mews’-style townhouses.

Designed as a pedestrian-friendly community with extensive walking and cycle paths, residents will be able to easily and safely walk through Ed.Square. All amenities are within 400 metres of the homes, connecting residents to the retail by foot.

This connectivity extends to the public transport links. The brand new Edmondson Park train station provides easy access to Liverpool, Parramatta and Sydney CBD, while the local bus network and Badgerys Creek airport will enhance these connections.

Ed.Square is in one of Australia’s fastest growing areas in Sydney’s south west and is part of the South West Priority Growth Area identified by the NSW Government. Frasers Property is targeting a 6 Star Green Star Communities rating from the Green Building Council of Australia for Ed.Square.
