Australians stand together for homelessness in A Night Without Home
This October, Frasers Property Australia teams across the country will be stepping out of their comfort zones for A Night Without Home, a special sleepout in offices to raise funds and awareness for the A Home For All Foundation.
Staff, industry partners, and community members are all invited to spend a night away from their own beds, standing in solidarity with the thousands of Australians who don’t have a safe place to call home.
Homelessness in Australia is often hidden. On any given night, more than 122,000 people are without secure housing, but most aren’t sleeping rough on the streets. Many are couch surfing, staying in cars, or moving from one temporary spot to another – often quietly doing it tough, out of sight.
Currently, women and children escaping unsafe situations are the largest group reaching out for help, and more older women are finding themselves at risk as rents rise and financial pressures grow.
A Night Without Home is truly about more than raising funds; it’s about building real understanding and empathy. By taking part, people get a small glimpse into the uncertainty others face, while helping to raise money that go directly to frontline charities – with a strong focus on those affected by domestic and family violence.
The impact of this collective effort is already clear. Thanks to last year’s fundraising, the A Home For All Foundation raised $1 million, with $400,000 going to Women’s Community Shelters. This support has provided crisis beds, specialist caseworkers, food, clothing, and transitional homes, giving families in crisis a lifeline and a chance at a more stable future.
Emily Wood, Executive General Manager Development at Frasers Property Australia and a member of the Foundation’s Advisory Committee, recently joined the Real Talk podcast to share about the power of industry collaboration.
“So, when you get development, property, tech, finance, energy all coming together, that voice can be amplified, and we can see the power in that. Where it's conversations, partnerships can come together and we can really start to make tangible impacts, whether it's through donations, whether it's through partnerships, but also education and leveraging that collective voice,” she explained.
Emily also reminded listeners just how close anyone could be to homelessness:
“Certainly, what I've learned in being involved in the foundation is those that are experiencing homelessness, it's never often because of choices they've made, circumstances they find themselves in, and often it's one bad moment or something that's one step away from homelessness.”
A home means so much to all of us. When we come together, we can help someone else find the stability and support they deserve.
