Shell Cove Construction Update - Vela Apartments

Following last month’s topping out of the structure, the project has now shifted into the internal apartment fit-out phase. This stage brings the first wave of trades into the building, including partition framing for living areas, bedrooms, bathrooms and laundries, as well as the installation of services such as plumbing pipework, electrical cabling, air conditioning and fire protection. These early service works, commonly referred to as “rough-ins”, are critical to preparing each apartment for completion.

Wet area preparation and quality assurance remain a strong priority at this stage, with multiple checks in place to ensure bathrooms and laundries are constructed in strict accordance with the NCC and Australian Standards. The same high level of QA extends to rooftop waterproofing, which has now been completed on the South Tower, with the North Tower to follow in the coming weeks.

Window and sliding door installations continue to progress across both towers. As the buildings become more weather tight, this will soon allow the introduction of finishing trades.

Here’s the latest progress on site:

• In-ceiling and wall services are underway on all levels.
• Apartment wall partitions are mostly complete on the lower levels and have now commenced on the upper floors. Once sheeting is complete, the next steps will be set, sand, and apply the first coat of paint.
• Balcony sliding doors are installed up to Level 3 in both towers, with west elevation windows progressing in line.
• Wet area substrate preparation has reached the final level, Level 4 of the North Tower.
• Cavity sliding doors are being installed across the project.
• The prototype apartment (used to benchmark quality) has reached another milestone with the successful inspection of the offsite prototype kitchen, which will now be installed within the apartment.
• Construction of the pool shell is underway.
• Solar panel installation has commenced on both rooftops.
